Une lithographie est considérée comme une œuvre d'art à tirage limité. C'est un travail de gravure avec différents passages couleur par plaque gravée. Une image est donc décomposée en nombre de couleurs pour en réaliser le tirage. On imprime un exemplaire à la fois sur chaque feuille, couleur après couleur, et ce sur plusieurs jours.
Chaque lithographie comporte le numéro sur le tirage, l'estampille de l'atelier de lithographie, l'estampille de Pierre Farel ainsi que sa signature avec un certificat d'authenticité.
